Par cette recherche nous avons essayé de découvrir la relation fonctionnelle et technologique existant entre l’activité de dépeçage et ces outils, qui représentent la seule catégorie du site portant des traces liées à cette activité. Deux questions ont été posées : s’agit-il d'une retouche spécialisée ou du début d’une chaîne de ravivage ? Les auteurs avancent une troisième hypothèse liée au problème de l’économie de matière première. Flat-retouched lithic implements from a Mousterian site in Grotta Breuil (Circeo, Italy) are analyzed by micro- and macro-wear analyses and experimental technology as well. The aim is to understand the functional and technological relationship between the butchering activities and the flat-retouched implements which represent the only lithic category at Grotta Breuil, where butchering traces have been found. Two possibilities can be investigated : 1) Is this kind of retouch a specialized one ? 2) Is it the onset of a rejuvenation chain ? The authors favour an intermediate hypothesis linked to the low productivity of local raw material.
