The morphology of the Hainaut farm shows the influence of ancient traditions, particularly with regard to the open distribution pattern of the habitat, the practice of enclosing the farms and the features of the buildings (barns, cart-sheds, isolated dove-cots in the middle of the courtyard, etc.). The author pays particular attention to the position of the buldings (arranged in a U-pattern or forming a quadrilateral), the characteristic arrangement being that of the open pattern with buildings which are not directly connected to one another. Dans le domaine de l’architecture rurale, le Hainaut occidental constitue une zone de transition entre la Flandre et la Hesbaye. La morphologie de la ferme hennuyère manifeste l’influence de traditions anciennes, notamment en ce qui concerne la dispersion de l’habitat, le principe d’enclore l’ensemble et les caractéristiques des bâtiments (granges, chartil, colombier pied au milieu de la cour, etc.). L’auteur prête son attention surtout à la disposition (en U ou en quadrilatère) des bâtiments, caractérisée par l’ordre lâche.
