In einer älteren Phase (Aurignaco-Gravettien und älteres Epigravettien) erscheint die position des Körpers, und hauptsächlich die der oberen Gliedmaßen, äußerst variabel; die Grabbeigaben bestehen aus klar definierten Artefakten (aus Silex, Knochen oder Horn), welche durchwegs eine beträchtliche Größe aufweisen; der Haarschmuck des Toten ist reich und bedeckt sowohl den Kopf als auch die oberen Gliedmaßen ; Ocker findet sich in fast allen Gräbern. In einer späteren Phase (jüngeres Epigravettien) setzt sich in den Bestattungen generell die Rückenlage durch, die Grabbeigaben sind enigmatisch (Flußkiesel, Hornspitzen, usw.) und scheinen Symbolwert zu besitzen ; der Haarschmuck, mit Ausnahme der bestattungen im ligurischen Raum, fehlt fast immer, sowie teilweise auch der Gebrauch von Ocker. Temporal and spatial evolution of the upper Palaeolithic funeral rites in Italy During the study of italian upper palaeolitic burials the Author examines some changings relative to the position of the dead’s body, the kind of the gravegoods and the ornaments, changings which are perceptible in time as well as in space. During an older phase (Aurignaco-Gravettian and ancient Epigravettian) the position of the corpse, and particularly the one of the upper limbs, is quite variable; the burial goods are constituted by well defined tools (made of flint, bone or horn) often of considerable size; the dead’s ornaments is rich and covers head as well as upper limbs; ochre was found in nearly all of the tombs. During the younger phase (final Epigravettian) the corpse usually appears in a supine position, the burial goods are now enigmatic and seem to have a symbolic character (pebbles, points of horns, etc.); with the exception of the ligurian area the ornaments is quite always missing, as well as, in some cases, the use of ochre.
