Il énumère les principaux thèmes de recherche, souligne la validité des courbes de référence pour la chronologie du chêne établies par le laboratoire de Trèves et commente le problème des différentes espèces de chêne. Il est démontré qu'il n'y avait qu'un faible écart entre l'abattage et l'utilisation du bois. L'auteur présente également les recherches en cours sur la typologie des charpentes. The author briefly presents the basic principles, the methodology and the practical application of dendrochronological work before turning his attention to its application in the field of Belgian post-medieval archaeology. He enumerates the main themes of research, underlines the validity of the reference curves elaborated by the Trier laboratory and comments on the problem of the different species of oak. It is demonstrated that only a short lapse of time separated the cutting of the trees from the use of the wood. The author also presents the current research work on the typology of timber frameworks. As a result of prince-bishop Erard de la Marck's policy in the early 16th c., it has suffered profoundly from modifications at that time. The work consisted essentially of the construction of a powerful enclosure with bastions and an artillery tower, as well as of the remodelling of the "old castle" into more comfortable accommodation for its residents. The analysis of these buildings allows to describe these modifications from the early 16th c., until today. Partially demolished by Louis XIV (1676) and by an earthquake (1692), it is sacked in 1793 and in the 19th c., it is used as a quarry. La place forte de Franchimont (prov. de Liège) fait depuis de nombreuses années l'objet de fouilles, d'études et de travaux de restauration. Elle a beaucoup souffert des modifications profondes au début du 16e s., suite à la politique du prince-évêque Erard de la Marck. Les travaux concernaient essentiellement la construction d'une puissance enceinte avec bastions, l'installation d'une tour d'artillerie, ainsi que le remaniement du "vieux château" pour une plus grande confort des résidents. L'analyse des bâtiments permet de décrire ces modifications dès le début du 16e s. jusqu'à nos jours. Partiellement démoli par Louis XIV (1676) et par un tremblement de terre (1692), il est mis à sac en 1793 et sert de carrière au 19e s.
