Towards Thought as a Logical Picture of Signs

We are concerned with the problem of summarizing the contents of a coherent text. In this paper we argue that complex units of symbols like sentences, for example, are signs and the meaning of a text arises via their interaction. We introduce a model for the generation of summaries and illustrate its potential by a realistic example.

Formal Modelling to Understand Life Systems

Information and communication technology (ICT) increasingly controls life and social life. It rests on programmed software, creating formal models of life systems. Resting on which constitutional/evolutional qualities can life systems formally be described? Models are simplifications of realty constrained by purpose. What may they mean for life systems controlled concerning their further development? If but mosaically the paper highlights base formal modelling constituting life systems proposing a transdisciplinary approach. Movement and rhythm ground learning and information transfer. Representation and memory of models of the past and the future originate anticipation. Modelling creates a language of signs, supporting pragmatic heuristics. Modelling copes with complexity generating simplicity in behaviour and handling.

Non Verbal Communication Devices and Language Acquisition or Re-acquisition

The author is a mathematician, trained in logic and recursion theory. When confronted to the needs of children in special education (behavioural problems, mental retardation, x-fragile syndrome, language disorders) he naturally decided to use logico-mathematical tools with them. He created an adapted methodology to use these tools in a nearly non verbal way. This new approach is called the "Non Verbal Communication Device" approach (NVCD). The purpose of this chapter is to describe and define the NVCD like approaches, the cognitive observations realized with them and then to try to answer the question "Why does it work ?"

Quadri dimensional Interpretation of Syllogistic Inferential Processes in Polyvalent Logic, with a view to Structuring Concepts and Assertions for Realizing the Universal Knowledge Basis

Modelling syllogistic - inferential processes in polyvalent logic by diachronic syllogistic structures, we realise their QUADRI DIMENSIONAL interpretation, in the paper, by relational - objectual - propertational chains convergent in diachronic spaces. Aristotle considered the definition the motor nerve of syllogistic deduction, the medium term being a definition. Leibnitz conceived the definition as the beginning and end of any demonstration, a demonstration being nothing but a chain of definition. The concept of structure, implying a topological relational approach designates the necessary relations between the elements of a system, invariant and independent of the elements, therefore formalizable the structure constituting an abstract model capable of making the rules, governing the transformations, rationally intelligible. Structuring the concepts and the assertions of scientific theories according to the rules of syllogistic definability and deductibility systems are obtained, which underlie the realization of the Universal Knowledge Basis.
