Dans un second temps, l’article investigue le statut particulier de la géologie et du minéral dans la pensée de Novalis, tout en mettant l’accent sur les notions de chaos, de contingence, de forme et d’histoire. Dans un troisième temps, on propose une interprétation du fragment fameux comparant la nature à une « ville magique pétrifiée ». As a first step, this paper gives a general presentation of Novalis’ Philosophy of Nature, locating the latter in the plan of a universal progressive Encyclopaedia. Second, the paper investigates the particular status of geology and of the mineral in Novalis’ thought, while emphasizing notions such as chaos, contingence, form and history. Thirdly, it gives an interpretation of the famous fragment which compares nature with a “magical petrified city”.
