Abstracts
Though strategically important, Huy (prov. of Liège) was defended only by a repeatedly restored fortress, dominated by the surrounding hills. Among the latter, the Mont Picard was of paramount importance as it constitutes the natural way of access to the fortress. The author briefly presents the two Mont Picard forts, built to defend this way of access. The work started in 1693 (van Coehoorn), but the modern forts only date from 1705 and were already erased by 1718. Part of the substructure of the Fort Rouge could be examined in the field.
Quoique stratégiquement importante, Huy (prov. de Liège) n'était défendue que par une forteresse maintes fois restaurée et dominée par des collines. Parmi celles-ci le Mont Picard était primordial, car il constituait l'accès naturel à la forteresse. L'auteur présente brièvement les deux forts du Mont Picard, construits afin de protéger cet accès. Les travaux de terrain commencèrent en 1693 (Van Coehoorn), mais les forts modernes ne datent que de 1705 et disparurent déjà en 1718. Une partie des substructures du Fort Rouge a pu être étudiée sur le terrain.
